About the position

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral researcher to join our
team focused on probing and manipulating spin physics in organic semiconductors.
The successful candidate will leverage advanced optical and electrical spectroscopy
to investigate spin injection, magneto-transport, and quantum transport phenomena.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to bridge fundamental photophysics with
spintronic device performance in a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment.

Your profile

  • PhD in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics, Materials Science, or a closely related field.
  • Proven expertise in advanced optical spectroscopy (e.g., time-resolved PL, transient
    absorption, hyperspectral imaging) applied to
    organic semiconductors.
  • Experience / knowledge of vapour deposition or molecular beam epitaxy or organic
    molecules
    .
  • Strong experimental background in semiconductor physics, with a solid understanding
    of
    spin of organic semiconductors.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, build, and optimize complex optical or optoelectronic
    measurement systems.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and passionate about tackling challenging problems
    in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Team-oriented, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively, mentor peers,
    and lead project-focused work.

Your responsibilities

  • Design and perform advanced optical and magneto-optical experiments to study
    spin
injection and dynamics in organic semiconductor devices.
  • Contribute to the development and optimization of custom experimental setups
    for spin-sensitive measurements
    including molecular beam epitaxy
  • Analyze complex spectroscopic and transport data, working closely with theorists
and material scientists to interpret results, validate models, and guide device design
    .
  • Disseminate findings through high-impact publications and presentations at
    international conferences
    .
  • Participate actively in group meetings and collaborations, both internal and with external
    partners
    .
  • Mentor graduate students and contribute to the group's knowledge base in spectroscopic
    techniques
    .

Position and salary

This position is available from 1/02/2026 and is limited to a 2-year period initially,
with an excellent chance of extension. Salary and benefits are according to the Treaty
for German public service (TVöD Bund) to a level of E13, taking work experience and
special professional skills into account
.

About PDI

The Paul Drude Institute is part of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. and a member
of the Leibniz Association.
We are a globally recognized research institution specializing in the
development of novel functional materials through molecular beam epitaxy.
The institute carries out basic and applied research at the nexus of materials science,
condensed matter physics, and device engineering.

Our work focuses on both the fundamental physics and practical applications of
functional hetero- and nanostructures, superlattices, and custom-designed artificial
materials.
We place a strong emphasis on exploring and leveraging their electronic and
optical properties for quantum technology applications. Additionally, we offer
unique capabilities in simulating the growth and characterization
of novel materials using first-principles and reactive potential approaches.
